Heads Up: November's Big Screen Picks

by Andrew Douglas 01 Nov 2016 0 comments

Do more films come out during the winter than over the course of the summer? It would definitely make sense, as what else is there to do when it’s -2 outside and you’re not particularly 'into' being diabolically freezing or sitting in the house all weekend, every weekend? Nothing, that’s what.

As winter tightens its grip the film production companies of the world get set to unleash their next release, the big follow-up to their summer blockbuster. 9 times of 10 it’s got something to do with some kind of superhero or magical fella with a world to save, but sometimes there’s a little bit of variation.

Without further ado, here’s our top pick of the flicks you can witness down the multiplex this November…

Arrival

If a year goes by without the release of at least a few films about aliens, does it mean that they will eventually invade? We’ll never know. One thing we do know however is that Arrival – the story of an elite team brought together to investigate the arrival of various UFOs across Earth – looks really good.

Dennis Viollet - A United Man

A must-see not only for fans of Man United, but for fans of the glorious sport of football itself, this film documents the incredible life and career of Dennis Viollet – Busby Babe, record breaker, survivor of the Munich air disaster, England national team member and the man largely credited with introducing the beautiful game in the United States.

Gimme Danger

You’re either one of two different types of people in this world: someone who has heard of The Stooges or someone who hasn’t. Whichever camp you belong to, chances are you’ll gain something from Gimme Danger – a film which promises to tell the warts and all story of one of rock music’s most seminal groups.

Bad Santa 2

We’re not huge advocates of Christmas films, especially those which arrive in November. That being said, an exception must be made for this – the (very) long awaited follow-up to the 2003’s hysterical Bad Santa. Billy Bob Thornton reprises his role as boozy St Nick himself and I’m sure we can all take a guess at what kind of stuff he’s going to be getting up to!

Out Already…

If you can’t bear the thought of hanging on, here’s our picks of what to go and see while you wait around for the arrival of aliens, the story of Dennis Viollet, the shock and awe of Iggy Pops old band and a 60-year-old Billy Bob wrecked out his mind…

My Scientology Movie

Louis Theroux is a god amongst men, let’s just get that out in the open as a matter of public record. This is his first cinematic release and sees him tackle the subject – and indeed the institution – of Scientology head on.

War On Everyone

Half buddy cop movie, half black comedy, War on Everyone takes in the tale of two corrupt officers who make a habit of framing and blackmail small time criminals. When they try their routine with someone they initially underestimated, things take a turn for the worst.
